The 2025 GMC Sierra lineup includes two proficient trucks that serve different needs. The Sierra 1500 is a light-duty pickup with jack-of-all-trades usability, while the Sierra HD offers maximum towing and payload capacity for heavy workloads. Today, your local Buick and GMC dealership will compare these two trucks across key categories.

Performance and Hauling

The Sierra 1500 has four engine options. The standard 2.7L turbocharged inline-4 produces 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque, giving a strong balance between efficiency and strength. Standard on STL and Denali models is a 5.3L V8 with up to 355 hp, while the 6.2L V8 in the Denali Ultimate trim generates up to 420 hp. The available 3.0L Turbo-Diesel I-6 delivers close to 500 lb-ft of torque, enabling a maximum towing capacity of 13,200 pounds.

The Sierra HD models come in 2500 and 3500 varieties and have two engine options. The standard 6.6L V8 produces 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque, while the available 6.6L diesel V8 engine, standard in Denali Ultimate, generates almost 1,000 lb-ft of torque. That enables 3500 models to tow up to 36,000 pounds when properly equipped with a gooseneck or fifth-wheel hitch. Payload capacity on HD models can exceed 7,000 pounds.

Interior and Comfort

Both trucks offer Regular, Double, and Crew Cab configurations that seat three to six passengers. The Sierra 1500 has a Short Bed available (5 feet 10 inches), while the Sierra HD only offers a 6-foot 10-inch Standard Bed or 8-foot 2-inch Long Bed. Both trucks have similar trim lineups with similar amenities offered, ranging from the spartan Pro to the ultra-luxurious Denali Ultimate.

The Sierra 1500 includes a mid-range Elevation trim with a monochromatic exterior, gloss-black grille mesh inserts, and 20-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels. The available Elevation Premium Package includes jet-black leather-appointed front seats.

Technology and Infotainment

Both trucks offer a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen in SLE models and higher. It offers built-in Google functionality, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A head-up display is available for the 12.3-inch digital instrument panel in AT4 trims and up. Other available features include a wireless charging pad and 360-degree camera.

Denali and Denali Ultimate trims in the Sierra 1500 are the only models to offer Super Cruise hands-free driving technology. However, the Sierra HD includes more robust towing technology, with up to 14 available camera views.

The two trucks share many of the same core features, including interior appointments and technology. However, they differ in their performance and towing capabilities. The Sierra 1500 is suitable as both a work vehicle and daily driver, while the Sierra HD is ideal for commercial applications. Contact Bill Dodge Buick – GMC in Westbrook, ME for expert guidance on your next truck.
